Discover the freedom of shaping clay with your own hands. Pinch, coil, slab and texture techniques to make unique cups, trays, vases and sculptures.
Hand-building is the oldest and most direct way to connect with the earth. Unlike the wheel (which imposes a circular, concentric shape), working by hand gives you complete freedom to shape pieces with an organic character, textured surfaces and sculptural volumes.
At our studio in Olot we work in groups of no more than 8 people in a calm, inspiring atmosphere. We have different types of clay (red terracotta, high-fire stoneware, white clays) and you'll learn to control moisture and use slip to join pieces and add handles or relief.
We take care of drying, glazing where appropriate and the firings needed to finish the piece. The result is strong, waterproof objects that are 100% food, dishwasher and microwave safe.
Four key methods to give shape to any idea:
Starting from a small ball of clay, we press the thumb into the centre and pinch the walls outwards in a circle until we get a bowl or cup.
We roll cylinders of clay by hand and stack them layer by layer to build vases, bottles and large pieces with no need for a mould.
We roll out the clay to an even thickness, cut geometric patterns and join the walls with slip to make boxes, trays or prismatic vases.
We decorate the surface with textures or slips and we take care of drying, glazing and the firings needed to finish the piece.
You can enjoy a one-off experience (or gift voucher) of 2 or 3 hours, or buy hours to come to the studio in the morning or afternoon (maximum 3 h per session).
